Multi-Needs

The Community Access Program (CAP) was initiated in 1995 to provide day habilitation services for developmentally disabled individuals who reside in area nursing homes. CAP has since grown to serve people in three counties and presently serves approximately 275 individuals. Services provided include one on one and group training which are carried out in the community as well as the facility. More recently, individuals receiving services may live in their own homes or with parents/guardians and services have expanded to weekends and evenings for some individuals. Each persons wants and needs are addressed and implemented into a training plan that best suits the individual.

CAP staff use three lift-equipped vehicles that are capable of transporting clients and staff, accessing a wide range of community resources such as the Fort Wayne Zoo, Indiana Pacers games, theatrical performances, local school events, and dozens of other activities.

The CAP program recently received grant money from Round Robbins in Grant County to purchase an All Terrain Wheelchair, a Side-by-Side Trike, a Sound and Light Wall, and a Karaoke machine. Grants such as this provide the staff and clients with needed items to enhance the quality of training we provide.
