Rock’s Concessions will conduct a tenderloin fundraiser to benefit the FacePlace program at Community School of the Arts on Aug. 10.
Many Carey Services clients participate in FacePlace, which is a CSA program that emphasizes musical performance.
The event will be 4-7:30 p.m. in front of the CSA building in downtown Marion. Cost will be $10 for all you can eat. Children 5-12 $7.00 and kids under 5 “FREE”
Carey Services has been awarded Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) tax credits to sell to donors.
Individuals and businesses who donate to Carey Services through NAP are able to take a tax credit on their Indiana state income tax return for 50 percent of the amount of the donation and reduce their tax liability to the state. Donors also are able to claim the donation on their federal tax returns.
Carey Services will use the donations received through NAP to help maintain and upgrade the Pleasant Woods apartment complex that is a part of our Marion campus.

Tickets are on sale for “A Night at Carey,” a special night of dinner and dancing to recognize local people who have strongly supported community inclusion for people with disabilities. Early bird ticket pricing is $70 a person/$560 for a table of eight until March 15. After March 15, tickets will be sold for the regular price of $75 a person/$600 for a table of eight.
The event, which will include a dinner before the awards program and dancing afterward, will be 6-10 p.m. April 8 at Roseburg Event Center. This year’s inaugural event has a theme of “Paris Masquerade.” As a way to add to the evening’s French theme, attendees will receive masks that will be made in the agency’s new art studio.
The highlight of the evening will be The Carey Awards, six awards that will highlight involvement with improving the lives of people with disabilities.

Carey Services has been awarded an additional $1,100 in Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits it can offer to donors through March 31, 2017.
NAP is a program that provides Indiana tax credits to not-for-profit organizations for specific projects. Individuals and businesses who make a NAP donation to Carey Services can receive a credit on their Indiana income tax return for 50 percent of the donation amount. Federal tax credits might also be available.
“We were pleased to learn we have additional tax credits to offer donors as a result of fully committing our first round of credits,” said Jim Allbaugh, president and chief executive officer. “The additional donations we can solicit will be helpful as we continue to improve the work we do help people become empowered and equally valued members of the community.”
The agency exhausted its initial allocation of credits in December. Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, the state organization that oversees NAP, reallocates the money agencies are unable to use by Dec. 31 to agencies who were able to exhaust their original allocations.
Carey Services will use the NAP donations to help maintain the Pleasant Woods apartment complex and meet other programming needs. Pleasant Woods is an affordable housing community designed with individuals with disabilities in mind. The community has five one-story accessible duplexes designed to facilitate independent living. The NAP donations will be used to upgrade the facilities to further increase accessibility.

Duck season has officially closed for 2016.
The 10th annual Carey Services Duck Race was a huge success. The event raised nearly $40,000 for agency programming and client needs on a hot, humid night at The Splash House in Marion. It was a perfect night to be a duck and be in the water.
And, speaking of ducks, the Carey Services duck mascot was officially christened after the race. In a community contest in cooperation with the Chronicle-Tribune, our feathered, well, really fuzzy, friend was given a baseball jersey with the name “Quackers.” So we now know what to call the big yellow bird.
The three case prizes went to: Shirley Puckett, $1,500; Keith Newman, $500, and All-Star Staffing, $250. One of the big attractions for the 10th anniversary observance was the chance to win a $25,000 cash prize to go toward the purchase of a new vehicle. A random duck was drawn before the race, but another random duck drawn from the ducks gathered at the finish line did not match the first number drawn, so nobody won the big prize.
The five finalists in the Carey Services’ Name the Duck Contest have been determined. The initial voting, in cooperation with The Chronicle-Tribune, concluded Monday morning. Members of The Alliance Seekers of Grant and Blackford Counties helped Carey Services Duck Race Committee members narrow the nominations to the finalists.

The annual Carey Services Duck Race, which has become an early-summer tradition in Grant County, will be June 25 at the Marion Splash House.

This year is the event’s 10th anniversary of having fun and raising money to help people with disabilities. As part of the anniversary celebration, we’re moving the race to an evening event and adding activities to make it more of a festival. The Splash House gates will open at 6 p.m. The race will begin about 7 p.m., and we will have other activities throughout the evening and conclude about 9 p.m.
One part of the milestone observance will be a name the duck contest to properly give the agency’s duck mascot a name. We’ll have more details on the race and the naming contest soon.
