LETTER FROM OUR CEO

         THE STORY OF A LIFETIME

I have heard it said, “Everyone has a story.” People say, “Isn’t that the story of life?!” The latter may be said
in good and bad times, I suppose. It is likely the majority of us, when we were children, were raised on
storybooks. Can you remember some of those stories? I can!

At Carey Services, we have a story that is rooted in 70 years of positive impact for children, families, and
people of all abilities in Indiana. That story of positive impact started small, in 1954, in a small meeting
room, with people like you and me that had a passion to make sure a legacy of impact existed for people
with disabilities in our communities. Oh, how I wish those people that were in that room could see the
story they started! They would be amazed. We tell their story today!

The “plot” of our story is clearly stated in our mission statement: “Turning abilities into opportunities”
every day in the communities we serve. And that is happening in some big and bold ways! You could say
the “theme” of our story is our vision statement: Carey Services exists to create “A world where all people
are empowered and equally valued in the community.” But the “characters,” those people that drive the
Carey Services story, are at the core of our story and represent our awesome 230+ strong employees, our
hundreds of people we impact through Early Childhood Education and Intervention, the hundreds of
people with disabilities and their families to whom we provide support and services, and the multiple
counties and communities where we provide services .

What is our story? The Carey Services story is told as the services we provide:
Infants and toddlers are prepared and ready for their next stage in school readiness through
             classroom and home-based learning!
Families are supported and more self-sufficient through education and parent support
             programming!
People with disabilities learn skills they (and others) never thought possible to be more independent!
People with disabilities learn job skills through classroom and hands-on learning!
People of all abilities have access to and live in accessible and affordable housing, sometimes for the
             first time in their lives!
People who have barriers to transportation receive the transportation they need to get where they
want to (and need to) go!
People get jobs, sometimes their first job they have ever had!
People have fun, and learn alongside their friends and colleagues!
People we serve and employ have the Experience of a Lifetime!

What is your story and how might it connect to the Carey Services story? I would love to learn what your
story is, and to see how we might connect your story, your passion, with our story here at Carey Services.
If you have read this far, my hope is that you email your story to me at jallbaugh@careyservices.com (or

          of people for another 70 years…and another 70 years…
