In 2024, Carey Services launched its inaugural Catapult
Indiana program in partnership with Conexus Indiana and
Don Wood Foundation, adapting advanced manufacturing
training for people with disabilities. The program saw 12
participants enroll, with eight completing the course and
attending an average of 180 instructional hours over six
months. At the end of the course, two participants achieved
full course graduation earning six Ivy Tech credit hours.
Innovative adaptations were implemented to address
significant barriers, including literacy challenges and
physical disabilities. Participants benefited from strategies Cohort 1 Graduation Class picture!
such as study guides, open-book exams, tests read aloud,
and hands-on activity modifications like adjustable
workstations and accessible tools. These accommodations
ensured inclusive participation and measurable
improvement, with pre-test to post-test averages
increasing by 8 percent.
The training highlighted the adaptability of advanced
manufacturing principles across industries, empowering
participants with practical skills and boosting their
confidence. Carey Services is proud to pioneer this Catapult Indiana participants learning
transformative initiative and looks forward to replicating its advanced manufacturing skills.
success in other communities, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to “Turn abilities into
opportunities.”
O
About a year ago, Ezekiel began his journey with Carey Services’ Employment Services Discovery process,
determined to achieve his goal of gaining meaningful employment. From the start, Ezekiel approached
every step with drive and commitment. He set his sights on one special milestone: earning enough to treat
his family to a wrestling match, a cherished activity they enjoyed together.
Ezekiel was a model of consistency and dedication. He never missed an appointment, always
communicated clearly, and maintained healthy boundaries as he worked toward his goals. Facing
challenges head-on, particularly when it came to communicating with new people, Ezekiel showed
remarkable resilience.
Managers who worked with Ezekiel had nothing but praise for his work ethic and character. They described
him as polite, helpful, and proactive, always asking how he could assist and what he could do next.
Ezekiel’s hard work paid off when he secured a position with Pioneer College Caterers at Indiana Wesleyan
University. This supportive environment is helping him continue to grow his skills, both professionally and
personally. Ezekiel’s journey is a testament to his unwavering determination and the goals he achieved 4
along the way.
