FALL 2023 NEWSLETTER

Barbara Mikulski was trained as a social worker and was the second woman in the nation’s history to serve in both the US House of Representatives and the US Senate. Many recall her going to work every day asking, “how can I help you?” As I prepared for the eMPower Academy ribbon cutting, one of her quotes resonated with me, “Each of us can make a difference. Together we make change.” These words speak to the dedication, tenacity, advocacy and commitment of the many people, organization, foundations, and businesses who came together to make a change in the supports and services available at Carey Services for the community. I started just over two years ago, and this project was a vision before that. I was fortunate to join this journey and share the story of the vision for improved personal choice pathways at Carey Services. On behalf of our staff, the individuals we serve and their families, I thank you the community that for coming together to make change. You have created pathways for individuals to live their best life!

Employment Services Creates Opportunities

Angie Luzadder, Lisa Worthington, and our team at Carey Services are dedicated to ‘”Turning abilities into opportunities’” in the workplace and our community. Together, we can continue to strengthen our commitment to a more inclusive future, where every individual’s potential is celebrated and supported. We do this through multiple types of  Employment Services! 

Lisa Worthington, Employment Specialist, places a strong emphasis on the value of inclusivity and diversity within the workforce, stating, “A diverse workforce where there is genuine inclusiveness and diversity is a strong workforce.” She brings this point home by sharing the inspiring story of Amanda, a client who exhibited outstanding professionalism and dedication. Amanda’s positive attitude and strong work ethic were instrumental in enhancing her workplace’s atmosphere and contributing to its success, underscoring the potential of individuals with disabilities in the workforce.

Discover a unique collection of art crafted with passion and skill by individuals with disabilities in the Creative Hearts Art Studio. From small and large canvases to wooden signs, beaded items, knitted scarves, and more – there’s something for everyone.

Explore a wide variety of themes, from festive holidays to the beauty of different seasons and diverse interests. Each piece tells a story, and every purchase supports these talented artists. And here’s the heartwarming part – when a piece of art finds a new home, the artist earns 60 percent of the selling price. It’s a celebration of talent, inclusion, and the spirit of giving!
