    We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Carey Services has been awarded a landmark $400,000 grant from the WindSwell Foundation to launch Phase 1 of our Next Generation Campus project!

    This incredible investment officially kickstarts the complete modernization of Building C, turning it into a state-of-the-art, purpose-driven space designed to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Combined with amazing support from the United Way of Grant County, we are closer than ever to fully funding this $1.7 million phase—and construction begins this month!

    Carey Services Unveils the Pleasant Commons Courtyard

    A new chapter of inclusion and community connection begins at Carey Services! The Pleasant Run Courtyard officially opened with a ribbon cutting on November 3. This project was made possible through the support of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis and First Farmers Bank & Trust! This innovative outdoor space is designed to promote wellness, learning, and connection for individuals with disabilities.

    AEP Foundation Helps Carey Services Reach More People with New Vehicle Wraps

    Carey Services is thankful to the American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation for providing funding to wrap three of the organization’s transportation vehicles. This support will help Carey Services raise awareness about its programs and make it easier for individuals with disabilities and their families to connect with the services they need.

    The wrapped vehicles will travel throughout the community, helping people recognize Carey Services and learn more about the opportunities available for education, job training, and personal growth. The project supports Carey Services’ mission of “Turning abilities into opportunities” and reflects the AEP Foundation’s commitment to education, inclusion, and community impact.

    “We’re grateful to the AEP Foundation for helping us reach more people,” said Jim Allbaugh, President/CEO at Carey Services. “This project will help individuals with disabilities find the support they need to live more independently and be more involved in their communities.”

    The AEP Foundation’s support will have a lasting impact by helping more people discover Carey Services’ programs and by showing the community that everyone deserves the chance to succeed.

    “We are honored to partner with Carey Services and support their community efforts, which includes their robust programing aimed at promoting individual development,” said Rob Keisling, I&M External Affairs manager. “The impact they have on Marion is notable and we are excited to see this grow in the future.”

    New Transportation Report Highlights Community Needs and Opportunities

    Carey Services recently partnered with Transform Consulting Group to conduct a transportation study focused on the needs of people with disabilities and others throughout Grant County. The 2025 Grant County Transportation Study highlights how limited transportation options, in rural areas are making it harder for people to get to work, attend appointments, and stay connected to their communities.

    The study found that just 23% of working-age people with disabilities in Grant County are employed, compared to 66% of those without disabilities. Many individuals rely on Carey Services or caregivers for rides, and public transit. But, options remain limited in coverage and hours. The lack of accessible, affordable transportation is affecting not only individuals but also local employers and the broader community.

    The report offers practical solutions like expanding shuttle services, partnering with employers, and hiring more trained drivers all to help make transportation more inclusive and reliable for everyone!

    Each year, Carey Services releases a report recapping their operations and financial performance for the fiscal year. The 2024 annual report, for July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024 is now available and includes letters from Jim Allbaugh, president/CEO, and Phil Bowers, board chairperson, along with organization financial information, and snippets of program areas and their impacts.

    Mayor Morrell Proclaims March Disability Awareness Month in the City of Marion

    At the recent Denim and Diamonds event hosted by Carey Services on March 2, Mayor Ronald Morrell Jr. proudly proclaimed March 2024 as Disability Awareness Month in the City of Marion. This momentous occasion not only highlights the city's commitment to inclusivity but also celebrates the invaluable contributions of individuals with disabilities to our community.

    Mayor Morrell's proclamation underscores the significance of raising awareness about disabilities and promoting equal opportunities for all members of society. Through initiatives like National Disability Awareness Month, communities across the nation are encouraged to foster environments of understanding, acceptance, and accessibility.

    Mayor Morrell included this statement as part of the proclamation: “The goals, dreams, and aspiration of Carey Services, our local support organization or people with disabilities, along with the City of Marion and the State of Indiana properly include providing individuals with disabilities the opportunities and support to make informed choices and decisions; live in homes and communities where such individuals can exercise their full rights and responsibilities as citizens pursue meaningful and productive lives; contribute to their family, community, state and national and achieve full inclusion in the City of Marion and the society.”

    "We are honored Mayor Morrell is officially recognizing March as National Disability Awareness Month in Marion," stated Jim Allbaugh, president/CEO of Carey Services. "It is imperative that we continue to advocate for the rights and inclusion of individuals with disabilities, ensuring that they are valued members of our community and have access to the resources they need to thrive."

    Carey Services, a leading organization dedicated to “Turning abilities into opportunities” for individuals with disabilities and children in early childhood education, hosted the Denim and Diamonds event, providing a platform for Mayor Morrell to make this significant proclamation. The event served as a reminder of the importance of supporting organizations that champion the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities.

    As Disability Awareness Month unfolds, the citizens of the City of Marion are encouraged to participate in events and activities that promote education, understanding, and empathy towards individuals with disabilities. By working together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive community for everyone.
