    Free Community Shredding Day

    Carey Services will offer its annual fall free Docu-Shield Community Shredding Day on Nov. 1.

    Residents can drop off up to 10 boxes of documents for shredding from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Carey Services’ campus at 2724 S. Carey St. Those bringing boxes are encouraged to use the agency’s entrance off Ind. 9/Western Avenue across from Lowe’s. The document destruction area is in the southwest corner of the workshop building.

    All documents will be shredded and then baled into 1,500-pound bales for recycling.

    Community Day Coupon Books Available

    How would you like to shop, save money and help Carey Services all at one time?

    Carey Services is one of many area not-for-profit agencies that will benefit from Carson’s annual Community Days fund-raising event.

    Coupon books are $5 each and can be purchased at reception desks on Carey Services’ Marion campus in buildings A and C. The agency keeps the proceeds from each coupon book sold. Carey Services also will receive proceeds for coupon books purchased online at this link.

    The coupons can be used 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Nov. 14 and 6 a.m.-11 p.m. Nov. 15 at any area Carson’s store.

    Each book will have coupons with more than $500 in savings on those two specific days at Carson’s stores.

    Carey Services Receives Grant

    Carey Services recently received a grant from the Blackford County Community Foundation to buy sensory equipment for the Hartford City Day Services Center.

    The foundation awarded the agency nearly $2,900 to buy equipment for a sensory integration room in the day center in downtown Hartford City. The equipment will help center staff members better work with clients in a specific setting designed to help them work on those skills in an optimal environment. The new equipment will help clients work on communication skills and fine-motor and gross-motor skills, among other things. Those skills are part of each client’s personalized plan to become more integrated into daily community activities.

    “We are very appreciative that the foundation is providing funding for us to provide increased services to the people we serve in Blackford County,” said James Allbaugh, Carey Services’ president and chief executive officer. “The award fits perfectly with the agency’s vision of helping all people, regardless of their abilities and barriers, to be equally valued members of the community.”

    The Hartford City Day Services Center is open Monday through Friday. It serves people in Blackford and surrounding counties. For more information, call (765) 667-0368.

    Carey Services Job Fairs Coming

    Carey Services has job openings for several positions and will conduct job fairs in Atlanta, Logansport, Wabash and Hartford City to recruit staff members.

    We will conduct a job fair in Atlanta in Hamilton County on Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hamilton North Public Library, 100 S. Walnut St.

    We will conduct a job fair in Logansport on Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the WorkOne office, 1 Ivy Tech Way, Suite B.

    We will conduct a job fair in Wabash on Oct. 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the WorkOne office, 1143 N. Cass St.

    We will conduct a job fair in Hartford City on Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the WorkOne office, 1301 N. High St. Suite B.

    We will have human resources staff to speak with you about the application process, and we will have managers available for preliminary interviews.

    Manufacturing Exhibit

    Carey Services is one of the Grant County manufacturers highlighted in the “Still Making It In Grant County” exhibit at the Marion Public Library Museum.

    The exhibit celebrates Grant County’s strong manufacturing presence as well as its rich manufacturing heritage. The exhibit includes samples of products built by local manufacturers. The Carey Services table includes examples of the Mr. Canary bird feeders we produce, as well as items assembled for other Indiana manufacturers.

    The exhibit is open until Oct. 31. Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The museum is at 600 S. Washington St., in Marion. For more information, call the library, (765) 668-2900.
