    Duck Race Tickets Available

    Tickets are available for the annual Carey Services Duck Race, the agency’s largest fund-raiser each year.

    This year’s event will be June 27 at the Splash House, 2601 S. Adams St., in Marion. The race will begin at 11 a.m. Tickets cost $5 each, and winners do not need to be present to win. Each ticket, though, also is good for admission to the Splash House the day of the race. Race proceeds support Carey Services’ programming.

    First prize is $1,500, second prize is $500, and third prize is $250. Many other prizes also will be available, including a St. Elmo’s Steak House gift certificate, Chicago White Sox tickets, and other items donated from local and statewide organizations.

    Carey Services Adding Music Therapy May 15

    Carey Services is adding music therapy as a service offering for clients.

    The service will begin with a group session on May 15 from 2:30 to 3 p.m. on the Marion campus. Clients and others who would like to learn about music therapy can attend the session. Those participants who require caregivers must have their caregivers attend the session with them. The session will be conducted in the cafeteria area of the campus’s Building B; the agency is finishing renovations on a permanent music therapy room in the same building.

    Becca Samson, a certified music therapist with Opportunities for Positive Growth, will lead the session — and the music therapy program as a whole. Music therapy is another way Carey Services is working to provide the latest therapeutic options for clients to allow them to achieve greater independence.

    Mr. Canary Bird Feeders

    Mr. Canary Featured in Ball State Magazine

    The Mr. Canary bird feeders Carey Services produces recently received prominent mention in the Spring 2015 Ball State University alumni magazine, Alumnus.

    An article on entrepreneurs with ties to the university featured Jan Long, a founder of Mr. Canary. The article talks about the creation of Mr. Canary and how the connection between the company and Carey Services developed. A smaller article features another Ball State graduate, Nathaniel O’Dell, and how he began working for Mr. Canary as an intern and now is a full-time company employee.

    Carey Services produces the Mr. Canary bird feeders at its Marion production facility. The feeders are sold through many large national retail chains.
